George Washington Remembers
Traveling Exhibit Film
George Washington’s own words narrate three vignettes from his dramatic early military career on the Pennsylvania frontier—experiences that would have a profound effect on him later in life: a devastating friendly fire incident, a disastrous expedition under General Braddock, and a crushing defeat at Fort Necessity.
The film was shot on location in western Pennsylvania with meticulous attention to historical accuracy. Using archaeological information, historians constructed a section of Fort Necessity with hand-hewn timbers, and conducted a musket ballistics experiment. The film travelled to the US Capitol and Canadian War Museum to accompany Washington’s recently restored autobiographical documents—a process we also captured on video.
